Things Are Getting Heated
Let me start off by saying I’m grateful that you’ve decided to spend your ever shortening attention spans with me —love you to bb. It feels weird to be annotating things consumed with great pleasure in exquisite detail, considering the state of food insecurity around us, but for the sake of escaping, if only for a brief moment, this somber reality, I will carry on.
And on that note, do you have a minute to talk about the gospel of spice?
As someone constantly advocating for summer, I’m obsessed with heat in its many forms, whether it’s soaking up sun for endless hours like the iguana I genuinely believe I was in a past life or taking heat from a perfectly made habanero sauce, “some like it hot” and by some, I mean me. If you’re more of a “mild” worshipper, know that you can be converted, as heat is apparently in the mind and less of a physical act.
So before we get to this week’s recipe, here are some benefits of spicing up your life, literally.
Boosts metabolism 💪
Improves heartburn 🤢
Contributes to a healthier heart ❤️
Reduces mortality 💀
Reduces inflammation, pain temporarily 🤕
Lowers blood pressure 🌡️
Spicy Hungover Noodles
In honor of it being Friday and the weekend, though how does one demarcate short weekend from long weekend after 50+ days of enforced lockdown? You could treat yourself to fluffy stacks as “brunch” and sip on endless mimosas with your friends over Zoom or pretend you’ve had one hell of a night at a crowded bar, the kind where the music is so loud it takes you half the night to order a drink so you go straight for shots, and wake up the next day craving something to get you over the hill of a “hangover.”
Let’s assume you went with the latter, and if you didn’t—well, this is awkward. Here’s a quick noodle recipe that does the trick, quick!
Instructions:
1 cup of gluten free rice noodles (or your choice)
1 ½ tbsps red-pepper flakes
1 ½ tbsps aminos sauce (regular soy sauce if you want)
1 ½ tsps of pure sesame oil
1 tsp of minced garlic
1/4 tsp of achiote
1 tsp of lime juice
1 tbsp of green onions
sesame seeds to decorate on top
Directions:
Mix sauce ingredients into bowl, then mix.
Cook noodles, drain while leaving just a little bit of that water in pot.
Combine both sauce and noodles in pot before serving, add whatever you would use to garnish and enjoy!
